Match Report - Bures vs. Twinstead 30/08/03 Twinstead 111 all out (Chambers C. 9-5-7-3, Bocking C. 10-6-8-4). Bures 112 for 3 (Pattinson C. 66, Lee J. 26 not out). Bures won by 7 wickets. Bures comfortably won this encounter with Twinstead. Another excellent wicket, but this one a little greener than that of the previous week offering perhaps a little help for the bowlers. This caused Twinstead skipper Bill Lucking to contemplate long and hard whether to bat or not, having won the toss. His decision to do so was welcomed by Mr. Slow in the Bures camp, perhaps relishing a bowl with the new ball. The opening McKenna/Chambers C. attack was immediately on the spot, with runs hard to come by. Frustration set in with the opening batters, both of whom capitulated to Chambers. The new batsmen approached their task very cautiously, necessitating the early introduction of Mr. Slow and Joe Dutton. MS emerged with Chambersesq figures economy wise and with the regular clatter of wickets at both ends it became clear that Twinstead were going to struggle to post a challenging total. Finally, with Bures having resorted to the brutal pace attack of Sammy Saer and 13-year-old James Bocking, Twinstead were bowled out 5 minutes before tea having batted all afternoon for 111! After a customarily wholesome Ros Brogan tea which was hoovered in next to no time by both sides, it was time for Bures to show what they could do with the bat. Opening the batting along with regular opener Lewis Chambers was Chris Pattinson, now living in Kent but up to see father for the day. CP was not quite his usual self, having suffered some dastardly injury to his nether regions recently. His innings started slowly, but blossomed into an excellent display with shots all round the wicket. He found an able ally in James Lee who stodged for a while before letting loose with a few shots of his own towards the end of the innings. CP eventually fell for an excellent 66, having just helped himself to successive sixes off the unfortunate Bill Lucking! And so the deed was done. The two teams repaired to the Bures Swan for refreshment and conviviality. Mr. Slow, radiant in victory but by contrast Bill Lucking disconsolate and dejected but doubtlessly with half an eye on the return match in four weeks time when surely Twinstead will seek to make amends!
