On a green and slightly uneven wicket Bures were invited to bat on 40 over format. James Lee and Chris Crace opened proceedings and progressed at an adequate pace to allow the rest of the team to enjoy the bar facilities. James perished but Crace's wise old head continued to allow an accumulation of runs following Mark Harries' golden dismissal. Enter C. Ayers who soon amassed 55 plus runs.  Crace became unable to resist the temptation of an inviting bowler and returned to the pavilion for a respectable 75. Enter Joe Dutton for his season's debut missing his first delivery by a considerable margin (must have had trouble holding the bat with his boxing gloves on - Ed.) but connecting to the second to produce a mighty six over mid wicket! In the interest of adequate time for refeshments after the game Bures declared after 35 overs, at 199 for 7.

Chappel concluded their innings at 165 for 8 after 40 overs, Bures utilising 9 bowlers with encouraging contributions from Messrs. Lee, Dutton and Harries.

Beer was taken afterwards at the Chappel ground, The Thatchers Arms, The Swan Inn, The Eight Bells and The Three Horseshoes. (Blimey! - Ed.)
