Match Report - Bures vs. Twineham & Wineham 23/06/07
Bures 157 for 4 (30 overs) Twineham & Wineham 130 all out
Bures won by 27 runs With
the rain clouds showing no sympathy for cricket, an afternoon of play
looked very doubtful as Twineham & Wineham arrived at Bures. A
particularly heavy downpour at 2.15pm hardly made it necessary to remove
the tea from the car, but good fortune struck and the clouds split to
allow broken sunshine; play commencing at 2.45pm on a restricted 30-over
basis. The Bures skipper won the toss and elected to bat, James Allen
& Jim Lee making steady progress. Allen produced a colossal drive to
dump the ball squarely in the tennis courts, closing his innings on a
useful 30. Jim Lee occupied the crease with a straight bat which allowed
boundaries to accumulate with some classy strokes, a very useful 58.
Enter Si Ayers who found running difficult and was nearly lapped by
Shenners. Bures closed at 157 for 4 from 30 overs. With plenty of
wickets in hand a deflated Phil Moore removed his pads unable to add to
an interesting batting debut of the previous weekend.. Twineham & Wineham got off to a good start, Ray Stanley & Chris Chambers unable to make a break into the opening partnership. After 15 overs it was not looking good with 80 on the board and all wickets in hand. Enter Messrs. James Allen & Jim Lee (let’s face it, they did it with the bat); the complexion of the game began to change, straight, slow nagging bowling from Allen and reasonably rapid and straight deliveries from Lee saw wickets fall. Bures were back in the frame cemented by one of those brilliant (lucky) high left-handed fast slip catches by Chris Ayers. Jim Lee’s tail was up and he took the final wicket rotating the middle stump past the keeper, 5 wickets for not many, a personal best and 4 wickets to James Allen. Enthusiastic fielding performances all round helped to produce this winning result which was celebrated afterwards with plenty of beer at The Swan. Contact us - here |
