Match Report - Bures vs. Olicanian Striders 22/07/08

Striders 198 All Out (Chris Chambers 7 for 59), Bures 198 for 9 (James Lee 75)

Bures won by 1 wicket

Bures invited the Olicanian Striders to bat in a 40 over game. Their opening partnership was comfortable with the attack of Durkin & Smith, runs were scored but Bures maintained control, circa 15 overs for 65 runs with 10 wickets in hand. Chris Chambers, with the benefit of two pints of Brewers Gold,  found his line, which, combined with 3 excellent catches from Lee changed the profile slightly. The Aussie pro was a second ball victim, taken by 'keeper Ayers. Play closed at 198 for 10, not bad for Bures.

The Bures innings started soundly with James Neale & Wiggy, the latter looking good at the crease, but not able to really trouble the scorers. Jim Lee joined Neale and knuckled down to a responsible and stylish attendance at the crease, no less than 2 hours, putting in a match winning performance. He was accompanied by Lewis Chambers who scored a worthy and rapid 32 which created a platform to allow others to measure their innings.  Joe Smith provided another solid performance, taking good singles and finding the boundary with some excellent straight drives. Derek ‘the colt’ Messent chipped in with a useful 15; the winning runs came from Tom Fairless who addressed the situation of the final over with nonchalant ease, reminiscent of Leavenheath.

A wonderful sporting game, worthy congratulations to Jim Lee, expressed by both teams. PS - No more Brewers Gold at the Eight Bells, please do something about it!
