Match Report - Earls Colne & Bures vs. Cressing 19/09/04

PDQ Cars North Essex Cricket League Division 3

Cressing 55 all out (20 overs)

(Christopher Chambers 9-5-10-3)

Earls Colne & Bures 56 for 1 (8.1 overs)

Result - Win for E C & Bures by 9 wickets

Another comprehensive victory for E C & B at Cressing. Mr. Slow won the toss for E C & B and immediately elected to field on a green wicket which had seen some overnight rain and promised to provide help to the new-ball bowlers. And so it proved. The Cressing openers struggled to cope with the prodigious away-swing of Nick Oakley and miserly accuracy from Chris Chambers. Two wickets fell in the second over and further wickets fell at regular intervals with Mr Slow himself amongst the wickets (thanks mainly to an improbable full-stretch catch from Patrick) and McKenna just too good with the ball. Cressing closed at 55 all out after only one hour at the crease.

Straight round and the E C & B batters made rapid progress despite the early loss of Lewis Chambers. The Coyle brothers ensured that the target was reached without further alarm, with young Kevin hitting the final delivery for four from a left-handed batting stance! Arrogant maybe, but we all wish we could do it! Cricket ended at just 3.10pm, prompting an early and welcome tea.

Promotion to Division 2 of the League is now assured and we need only to win the coming weekend's game to ensure promotion as champions of the division, whatever the other results.
