Match Report - Bures vs. Twinstead 19/05/07

Twinstead 149 for 6

Bures 151 for 9

(Chris Chambers 50 n.o.)

Bures won by one wicket.

The derby of Twinstead v Bures produced an exciting game of cricket on Cup Final Saturday afternoon. Prior to play commencing Bures’ Jim Lee was wrong footed by Twinstead’s Bill Lucking who, having won the toss, elected to bat, hardly in the spirit of ensuring a Twinstead opportunity to close up shop for a draw. Gordon Dewdney & Chris Chambers each produced two wickets assisted by the safe hands of Mark Shennan who used his ‘malt shovels’ to good effect. The next two wickets were taken by Jim Lee with a hat-trick opportunity available. Jim now enjoys the distinction of having a better bowling average than his batting…..the stress of captaincy is taking its toll! Twinstead closed their innings at 149 for 6….game on!

Following a delicious Sarah Norton tea, play resumed with Mitch Mitchell & James Allen at the crease, both finding the boundary and getting their team off to a good start. After a fall of wickets Mark Shennan credited the scoreboard with a rapid 32 to place Bures in a winning position, about 60 from 12 overs. Chris Chambers found the edge and middle of his bat, but with wickets falling Bill Lucking closed in for the kill taking the penultimate over, Bures needing 17 from two overs with no wickets in hand. His first ball was properly defended; alas it was the only delivery worthy of a straight bat leaving just two from the final over, achieved with a four from the first delivery. Chris Chambers 50 not out and both teams repaired to the Eight Bells to quench their thirsts.
