Match Report - Earls Colne & Bures vs. Eight Ash Green 15/08/04 (PDQ Cars League - Division 3) Eight Ash Green - 48 all out (26.3 overs) (Craig Lesiak 8.3-2-22-4, David Coyle 10-6-7-3, John Gibson 7-1-16-3) Earls Colne & Bures 51 for 5 (10 overs) Earls Colne & Bures won by 5 wickets Another emphatic E C & B victory on a very green and rather uneven Earls Colne wicket, with the entire match being completed in just over 2½ hours! The two teams were left to enjoy an early tea and Mr. Webb's bar benefited from some early-doors custom, of which he was very grateful! Despite having a strong batting lineup, E C & B skipper Amos decided to insert the opposition. With Lazy Lesiak enjoying some uneven bounce and David Coyle prolific turn, life was immediately difficult for the EAG openers who busied themselves with an aerial clout or two, tantalisingly out of reach of the E C & B fielders. The luck had to run out and each bowler enjoyed a wicket in the 10th and 11th overs respectively. A procession of EAG batters arrived at the crease and departed, all but empty handed with only one enjoying double figures! One would not wish to be unkind to the opposition, but it was not a performance of which they would be proud, with no one having the application necessary to bat in less-than favourable conditions. EAG were dismissed for a dismal 48, with all three E C & B bowlers enjoying wickets and excellent figures. The low EAG total allowed a certain rejigging of the E C & B batting order, with Messrs. Coyle K, Lee & Sills G enjoying brief cameos and Mr. Slow a textbook duck, causing Wolfie Gibson to mutter into his tea about bonus points. It remained for Will himself to come to the crease and strike a mighty six over long-off, to complete the game. Another victory for E C & B and another rung up the ladder towards promotion. Robbed of their afternoon's cricket, certain E C & B players decided to indulge in some catching practice on the artificial wicket with Lazy bowling little tweakers and David Coyle batting left-handed with half a bat, surrounded by silly point, leg slip, short-forward square leg and silly mid-on. Their antics of the youngsters were watched with admiration and interest from the safe sanctuary of the bar by various old Bures drunks, as EAG sidled off unnoticed. Clacton next week and a sterner test for sure. League results and tables are here Contact us - here |
