Match Report - Earls Colne & Bures vs. Abberton 15/07/07
Bures 202 for 9 (45 overs) Abberton 99 all out
E C & B won by 102 runs
An excellent win against a strong Abberton eleven.
Captain
Joe Smith immediately showed more talent than our usual skipper by
winning the toss and electing to bat on an excellent wicket. Against
the first eleven opening attack Smith and Chambers made good progress
before the first wicket fell at 55 runs. Chambers departed soon after
on 56 with the score at 81, successive batsmen found progress
difficult and at 88 for 5 it looked like an early tea. Himesh and Will
Clark to the rescue and some sweet strokeplay from them both with good
later contributions from Mr Webb and Mr Durkin permitted us to
close the innings at a creditable 207 for 9. Himesh finishing on 58
and Will in the mid 20's
Following
a reasonable off the Tesco's shelf tea an unusually athletic EC &
B team took to the field. Very accurate bowling by Messrs.
Durkin and Smith put 4 back in the pavilion within 12 overs with
the score only on 18. The first bowling change brought Kieron Webb
into the attack and notwithstanding a 12 month layoff he bowled with
such express pace that the opposition were rarely able to put bat to
ball, further wickets followed and with the introduction of Nick
Leppard into the attack Abberton were soon reduced to
gleaning as many bonus points as possible. All out for 99 with the
final wicket being taken by Jack Perfect-Brown.
Abberton are
a jolly good bunch of lads with a super club, an excellent
ground, attractive clubhouse and bar but sadly no beer. After a quick
pint of mouthwash we retired to find liquid refreshment elsewhere.
