Match Report - Earls Colne & Bures vs. Shalford 15/05/05

E C & Bures 161 for 9 (45 overs)

(Oliver Kearin 34, John Gibson 32)

Shalford 162 for 1 (32 overs)

Shalford won by 9 wickets

Another defeat for E C & B, but batting first on a fine Bures wicket, the E C & B batters showed commendable application in reaching a semi-respectable score. An obdurate 34 from Oliver Kearin and careful 32 from John Gibson were the highlights, with sadly neither batsman going on to make the deserved half century. Somewhat behind the rate after 30 overs, the scene was set for Slogger Shennan (who hit 19, including a colossal six) and the youngsters to push the rate on at the end.

After tea, the Shalford reply was measured in the face of an accurate McKenna and Chambers C. attack, with the former enjoying an excellent spell conceding just 22 runs in 10 overs but sadly without a wicket. However, after Chambers had enjoyed a well-earned scalp, the Shalford batters got after the change bowlers and quickly reached their target without further loss.

Another disappointing result for E C & B, but we live to fight another day.
