Match Report - Bures Vs Elmstead 11/05/03
Back Down to Earth for Bures!
The euphoria of the previous day's victory quickly evaporated as Bures were comprehensively beaten by Elmstead Grasshoppers.
There is some debate as to the precise scores, but it would appear that, batting first, Elmstead scored some 170 for 8 despite a typically economical bowling performance from Waterwings (10 overs, 5 runs, 1 wicket). However, it has now emerged that at one stage, Elmstead were 27 for 5, including a team hat-trick of a run out and two LBWs in 3 balls from Mike Burle! Quite how 27 for 5 became 170-odd for 8 is a little beyond me and I will await further information from my sources. In the meantime, let us just say that it must have represented a remarkable rearguard action from the Elmstead batters!
Batting after tea, the Bures top order was dismissed cheaply and the home side capitulated for some 79 all out, despite sterling resistance from Marc & Lee Norton, Chambers C. and McKenna of Hartlepool. The one positive aspect which has been reported to me is that of the tea, courtesy of Mrs. Ayers, the standard of which maintained the very high quality which we have enjoyed so far this year. Well done Mo!
A weekend of mixed fortunes, therefore.
