Match Report - Earls Colne & Bures vs. Wickham Bishops 06/08/06 Wickham Bishops 91 All Out (26 overs) (James Durkin 6-0-14-3) Earls Colne & Bures 92 for 1 (13.5 overs) (Adrian Wigan 30 no, James Bocking 32 no) Earls Colne & Bures won by 9 wickets
Success for E C & Bures in their
first-ever non-league match. Batting first, Wickham Bishops were shot
out for just 91, with good bowling spells from James Durkin, Himesh
Patel and Joe Smith. In reply, E C & B overhauled the total for
the loss of just one wicket with James Bocking and Wiggy enjoying
themselves. Encouraging debuts for under 14s, Jack Perfect-Brown (who
bowled some tidy off-breaks) and Alex King who kept wicket tidily and
took one excellent catch. Champagne moment might however have belonged
to 10-year-old Ollie Bocking who bowled just one ball and took a
blinding caught-and-bowled to wrap up the Wickham innings. Excellent
tea as well, receiving the John Gibson seal of approval (good job you
didn't go to Wickham St. Paul's, hey Wolfie?). A most enjoyable if
short, afternoon's cricket! Expectations were not high with a visit to
The Mitre afterwards but there was welcome relief from the ubiquitous
Greene King in the form of St. Austell Tribute which was enjoyed in
the aimable company of the Wickham players. We look forward to a
rematch!
