On a green flat wicket Bures invited the home side to bat on the basis of a timed friendly. The home side found accumulating runs and retaining wickets difficult against the opening attack of McKenna & Chambers. Some excellent fielding and enthusiastic team spirit resulted in Gestingthorpe struggling to produce a respectable score at 32 for 5 after 22 overs. Messrs Dutton, Elliott & Harries however learnt a salutary lesson on the virtues of line & length and the tea was taken at 185 for 8! Bures responded with enthusiasm but did not have the dogged determination to accumulate the required total completing their innings at 120 all out with 2 overs to go. Contributions of 31 Dutton, 28 Messent and 20 Chambers relieved some of the agony and wounds were licked in the Pheasant at Gestingthorpe (and elsewhere, I suspect - Ed.).
