Match Report - Bures Vs Boxted 05/05/03
Sad Bures taste defeat again, but our spirit is not broken!
Result - Boxted 160 for 6
Bures 117 all out
Result - Win for Boxted
Batting first, an under-strength Boxted quickly found the going difficult. At 63 for 3 off 24 overs Bures really should have done better; at one time a score of 120 seemed feasible! But some loose bowling allowed Boxted back in and 161 for victory was the order of the day. A generous quota of 48 wides helped the Boxted total along a treat!

It was time for tea! Suzy's stupendous sarnies were a treat and a ravenous Bures eleven comprehensively hoovered the bloody lot! A subsequent introduction of fresh-cooked sausage rolls slowed the Bures response, provoking requests for further mugs of tea, but the Bures eleven were equal to it, even the brothers Chunoo who had seemed distant in earlier games. It seems to me that this pair will be an asset to us in years to come. Their enthusiasm is refreshing and their contribution in the pub after the game most worthwhile. Just have to teach them to play cricket.........
The Bures reply was encouraging, but the quick departure of openers Amos (triggered) and Lee raised the stakes. Chambers C. & Miner McKenna departed cheaply but for a time an unlikely alliance between Mr. Slow and Captain Warden gave hope. But trigger umpiring (LBW) accounted for both and Bures were on the slide. Not even the obduracy of young James Bocking & Lee Norton could halt the Boxted tide and notwithstanding Les Chunnoos, Bures capitulated to 117 all out. Bures batters......Amos 36, Lee 13, Mr. Slow 23, The Injured (now, there's a surprise!) Captain 16.
A bad result and as you can imagine the mood in the boozer afterwards was sombre. There was much discussion of umpiring standards and Honest Bob busied himself trying to pollute James Bocking with GK IPA. (Needless to say, he was successful; the latter however dismissing the beer as "pissy", an adjective which found favour with his father!).
Three successive defeats on a triple-header weekend. But you just wait until next week.
NEXT WEEK IT WILL BE DIFFERENT!
