Result - Win for Bures by 9 wickets

Sweet revenge for Bures on Saturday. Gestingthorpe were comprehensively outplayed by a rampant Bures eleven!

Gestingthorpe elected to bat on a flat green wicket. Crace bowled with guile and expertise and with support from McKenna the former dismissed the top 4 Gestingthorpe batters including the worthy scalp of Robert Gardiner. "Economy" McKenna, suffering from the night before, claimed one wicket and the scene was set for allowing Messrs. Harries and Dutton loose on the late-middle order. From about 50 for five the score raced on to 100 for five until proceedings were calmed by The Skipper and Crace, the latter creaking his way dutifully through 14 overs! The Gestingthorpe innings closed at 150 for 9.

After a delicious tea, play resumed with J Lee and C Ayers at the crease. The former perished without really troubling the scorers and J Dutton took the No 3 slot. Joe was anxious to depart by 6.30pm to attend a boxing presentation evening. As most of you know Joe is a very accomplished boxer but he has never before batted at No 3 and to say that he rose to the challenge would be an understatement. Meanwhile Chris Ayers established himself at the crease and looked unlikely to lose his wicket. Chris struck the ball with extreme power and found the attack of Gestingthorpe much to his liking. A very useful 66 not out! Joe produced a very swift 78 not out in the course of which striking 51 off 17 deliveries. It would be fair to say that the Gestingthorpe bowlers just didn't know how to bowl at him. A very entertaining performance; despite putting his first delivery off middle stump straight back over the bowlers head, Joe included some defence towards the end of his innings well after the damage had been done.

Bures closed at 153 for 1, representing a 9 wicket victory. Top performances from Chris Ayers, Joe Dutton and Chris Crace. Well done, guys!

Look out Nacton!
