Match Report - Bures vs. Holkham 03/06/06 Holkham Hall 187 for 8 Bures 105 all out Holkham Hall won by 82 runs Lunch was taken at the Lord Nelson at Burnham Thorpe, most indulging in Woodforde's Wherry, Wiggy completing on a large Rum (Nelson's Blood). Holkham was a picture in the sunshine, the lake glistening in the background, the silence interrupted only by geese lifting off the lake to feed on the adjacent pasture. Bures lost the toss and were invited to field on the basis of a 40 over game. After 30 overs Holkham Hall were about 105 for 4, sadly the brakes were released too generously combined with some hard hitting Holkham batsmen to arrive at 187 for 8 at tea. Bures had an undistinguished start to proceedings, 2 wickets in the second over saw Lewis and Shennan back to their seats. Chambers C produced a flurry of boundaries but holed out to extra cover with a mistimed drive, 31. Warden knuckled in with 22 and Allen looked convincing, play terminating just before 7.00pm, 105 for 10. An impressive debut from Longhurst, nicely poised to make further contributions at Bures. An enjoyable afternoon in sunshine and a great setting. The team retired to the Victoria and at the behest of Holkham thoughts moved to a return visit in 2007. Watch this space!
