Match Report Bures Vs Gosfield 01/08/2002
Halstead Knockout Cup - Semi Final
Bures comfortably overcame an amiable Gosfield side in a 20 over thrash this evening, thus qualifying for the final of the Knockout Cup.
Batting first on a slow wicket which had seen some recent heavy rain, Bures amassed 114 for 6 in their 20 overs. Notable contributors were Amos with 25 but also a very enterprising 38 from Lewis Chambers who showed the value of opportunistic running between the wickets, followed by a good clout or two.
Gosfield replied steadily and at 10 overs, the match could have gone either way. But enter Chris Crace who, bowling quite quickly down the hill clean bowled FIVE victims in as many overs, effectively sealing the Bures victory. Your correspondent in his capacity of umpire was thoroughly sick of reassembling the furniture at that end! Gosfield closed at 95 all out in 19 overs. Well done to all the players (Amos W., Chambers L., Chambers C., Watercress A., Harris J., Lee J., Dutton J., Ayers C., McKenna P., Skinner T., & Crace C.
Thoughts must now turn to the final, to be played at Star Stile, Halstead on Tuesday, 6th August against (we gather) Helions Bumpstead. Let us hope that we can all look forward to a proper village final, with an absence of "ringers" from the strong town clubs!
Unfortunately, I will not be there to see the final since I am obliged to be at the opening of the Great British Beer Festival at Olympia but I am sure that a match report will be forthcoming provided I am sober enough to "cut and paste" it the following day!
