Match Report - Bures Vs Colchester & East Essex 01/06/03

Sad Bures bow out with another defeat!

Match Result - Bures 94. Colchester 95 for 4. Win for Colchester.

Another defeat for Bures in their final Osborne League match (News). Batting first, Bures made reasonable progress on a hard and flat wicket, despite the early loss of Chambers L. Warden & Lee took the score on to 50 for 1 but sadly a flurry of wickets led to a familiar collapse. However, it was not all plain sailing for Colchester. The opening batters struggled against a Waterworth/Haines attack and supported by some fine catches and perhaps with another edge or two going to hand, there would have been jitters on the Colchester camp. But it was not to be.

Captain David Warden summed up the day thus......

"It was a day of mixed emotions. Sadness... at the end of an era in which the village had journeyed from division four of what was then the Lancaster Garages league to division one of the Osborne league and along the way had produced some very strong sides and played some very competitive yet thoroughly enjoyable cricket. Relief... at being spared further despair, humiliation and embarrassment. Hope... at being able to enjoy cricket once again."

Nuff said.
