Match Report - Jolly Rogers Vs Bures 13/07/02
by Potty
(and with considerable help from Mr. Slow's spelling checker and legal indemnity deleter)
With a full social side and the promise of a sunny afternoon, the Skipper was not altogether surprised to find the Rogers along with most of his team slurping IPA in the Swan at 14.20hrs where the coin was tossed over spilt beer and the Rogers inserted. Given the apparent reluctance of the opposition to depart the Swan it was felt a delayed start was likely and less time in the field for Bures. The bowling started in a containing and economical nature, Chambers 2 for 36 from 12 and the Northerner typically solid 1 for similar overs and runs. Pieman Cropper invested heavily (sophisticated translation software interprets this as "Tom got carted" - Ed.) and Fish was similarly generous but alas no wickets were forthcoming at a critical stage and the Rogers produced 185 for 3, a great number of the scoring shots on the leg side. After tea Bures fell victim to its own generosity, fresh cream and raspberries together with the finest Susie Sarnies made making runs very difficult. A valiant effort, the Northerner made 20 odd and was returned to the pavilion following a plumb LBW. We returned to the Swan to soak our wounds, plenty of beer and good to see the Rogers again, funny that David Anderson should pass and renew his acquaintance with Boot!
(I think that means we
lost - Ed......)
